Creative Multitasking
Musicians in Multiple Capacities

A Symposium for Felix Meyer on his 65th Birthday

June 23-24, 2022

Lectures and Concerts

In earlier times, it was taken for granted that composers would perform their own music, whether as instrumentalists or as conductors. Not until the nineteenth century, and still more so in the twentieth, did these two activities of music-making drift apart. Yet the species of musician with dual or multiple professions has never disappeared. This symposium looked at a number of twentieth- and twenty-first-century musicians who combined both facets of music-making in their own work.
