Kaija Saariaho Collection
Collection of Finnish Composer Kaija Saariaho new at the Paul Sacher Foundation
24.10.2014
The Paul Sacher Foundation has acquired the music manuscripts of Kaija Saariaho (b. 1952), one of the outstanding composers of our time. The acquisition was made possible by a generous private sponsorship.
Saariaho, born in Finland and resident in Paris since 1982, fits well into the Foundation's emphasis on composers with French leanings. The documents are now available to music scholars, effective immediately. They shed light on a multifaceted oeuvre produced with a natural blend of traditional notation and computer technology, just as the works themselves combine standard instruments with the sounds of computer-aided composition, pre-recorded tapes and live electronics.
Besides her musical manuscripts, the Kaija Saariaho Collection also includes correspondence, programme booklets and reviews and will soon be augmented with sound recordings and electronic data. The Collection will be expanded on an ongoing basis.
